Claudio Santomé- Classical Singer - Tenor - Biography
Claudio Santomé was born in Argentina and completed training as a music teacher. In Buenos Aires he studied with Masters from the Teatro Colón where he also performed Verdi's "Aida". In 1991 he began performing Oratorio as a soloist in Handel's "Messiah" and Bach's "Magnificat". Since 1992 he debuted the operatic roles of Don Ottavio in "Don Giovanni", Rodolfo in "La Boheme", Cavaradossi in "Tosca" as well as participated in numerous opera and Zarzuela concerts.
In 1996 Mr. Santomé emigrated to the U.S. where he has been regularly solicited to perform the "Misa Criolla" by Ariel Ramirez. He had the privilege to perfom this piece in his native Argentina under the conducting of Ramirez. His performances of the "Misa Criolla" include St. Andrews Cathedral in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Hertz Hall in Berkeley, CA, Stanford University Cathedral as well as a tour of the original "Missions" of California with Instituto Pro Música de San Francisco including the Mission Dolores Cathedral, and the Missions of Carmel, Monterrey and San Luis Obispo. In 2000 Mr. Santomé became Music Director of Andanza Spanish Arts where he continues to create and present full scenes of Zarzuela (Spanish Opera) with Andanza such as "Luisa Fernanda", "Doña Francisquita", "La Dolores", "La Tabernera del Puerto" and "El Barberillo de Lavapies".
In the San Francisco Bay Area he has also performed as soloist in the Berkeley Community Chorus, Penninsula Ballet Theater and at the Jarvis Conservatory of Napa. He regularly tours and performs throughout the U.S. and South America. Mr. Santomé can be heard on the Berkeley Community Chorus' live recording of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" and seen on live video recordings of Penninsula Ballet Theatre's production of "Carmina Burana" and Jarvis Conservatory's Zarzuela productions of "La Rosa del Azafrán", "La Revoltosa", "Agua, Azúcar y Aguardiente" and "Zarzuela Night".
In 2005 he performed as a soloist in the NTDTV Chinese New Year Gala Celebration, SF International Latino Film Festival at Dominican University in San Rafael California. SF Humanities Building Concert Series . Benefit for Katrina Teatro Artaud .
In 2006 he performed Mahler's Ruckert and Des Knaben Wunderhorn with Prometheus Orchestra in Oakland, Malcolm in Verdi's Macbeth with West Bay Opera and Gastone/Alfredo for Martinez Opera, California .
In 2007 participate in a HIV Benefit with Womensing performing a selection of Micheal Tippet's "Child of our time" and Misa Criolla in San Jose at the California Theater with Silicon Valley Chorale.
After the succesfull performance in San Jose he toured with Symphony Silicon Valley Chorale to Europe under the Conducting of Elena Sharkova singing Ariel Ramirez's Misa Criolla in at Sacre Couer in Montreux, Jesuitenkirche in Lucerne, Piazza Grandini in Campione D'Italia Bissone in Switzerland and in Italy at the Lecco Cathedral together with the Accademia Corale di Lecco.
